Sea Gypsies
I lectured on the pupil constriction of these people. The video is showing a more acculturated sea gypsy people who are no longer nomadic and who now use goggles. Nonetheless this video post is for you to see these people in action. Notice when they have footage underwater, get a sense of how these people may experience their sensory motor systems radically different than us.

It is fascinating to be reminded of how many posibilities there are for the human race. We perceive human abilities and posibilities in relation to what we see around us in our modern culture. So much that we think we know is just a reflection of what already exists. What would each of us be like if we had never encountered "civilization"?
ReplyDeleteYes! Exactly! These questions that you are asking are essential to individuating from culture, much like we do with our parents, we too must individuate from culture. Then and only then do we begin to define, sculpt and transform culture.
ReplyDeleteI really start to think about living in a more tropical environment- what experience would I be having with my body then- ? I feel that I have been living near the water my whole life and never had a boat, never have been a strong swimmer- much more or a dog paddler- so seeing this community I think about the lung power and the swimming sense- we have things in common with dolphins but what do we tap into?
